Enid, OK: Market Report for Sept. 20, 2005

September 13 market report!
Have a great day!!

What an outstanding market we have! In the last couple of weeks, fat cattle have jumped almost $10.00/cwt! Yearlings have also seen a big increase. Seven weight steers are selling for $120.00, with eight weights not far behind! Feeding heifers bringing up to $112.00, while calves are holding fairly steady from $120.00 to $140.00. Looks like a great time to be selling cattle!

We seem to be in a bullish market still! The last two years saw cattle bringing prices never before seen, yet here we are again! Demand and supply always play the biggest role in determining markets, and we have excellent demand for our beef! The supply of available feeder cattle is very small, and that makes for a good market! Cattle numbers are increasing every year, but so are human numbers. With all kinds of cattle being contracted, it’s pretty hard to see those available cattle at the auctions, or even in the country. All these create a very good market!

Demand for feeder cattle continues to be very strong, with both large feeding companies and smaller northern feeders vying for your cattle! Isn’t it nice to be wanted? We’ve had some good moisture around the country, and tractors are going full speed. If we continue to get the rains, then wheat pasture looks like a very good opportunity to grow some cattle at a pretty reasonable cost of gain, not to mention that you might get a wheat crop also!

The bred cow market is still very strong also! Several older, bred cows are still going back to the country, with the younger cows available, but in very strong hands. There are several nice sets of young, blk cows available, but be prepared to spend good money for them! This might be a great time to replace those older cows! Check out our website if you would like to see some of these!

Our next monthly cow sale will be on Tuesday, September 27! We are looking forward to a nice selection of cows! Also on that same day, we will be having our video auction with approximately 10,000 plus calves, yearlings, and bred stock for sale! Call the office for a catalog or more information. You can also get this at www.winterlivestock.com!

Enid, OK: Market Report for Sept. 6, 2005

Another great week in the cattle market! After a long weekend, the futures board came out swinging Tuesday, with both live and feeder cattle contracts closing $1.00 to $2.00 higher. The demand for feeders continues to be very strong! Calves seem to be holding their own, even with the bulk of folks out in the fields.

We’ve had great moisture in the wheat belt over the last three weeks, and it appears like we should have a great start on wheat pasture. It looks like a good year to pasture cattle, especially after seeing the cost of gains in the feedyards, and the price of wheat and corn so low. It seems to make sense to graze cattle on wheat and then either harvest the wheat or graze it out. Either way, it’s cheaper to run four legs than four wheels!

A few northern cattle are starting to move off the big pastures, and bringing a tremendous price! Eight weight steers are being quoted up to $118.00, if you add $5.00 freight and $1.00 commission, that’s $124.00 or almost $1000.00 for an 800lb steer! WOW! We all used to think that $1.05 was a good price for a calf, let alone a big yearling! How times have changed!

The events in Louisiana present an excellent opportunity for all of us to show our support to our fellow citizens. There will be a great need for food, shelter and clothing for a large number of people. The cattle industry can provide two out of three. Maybe the government can donate some good steaks to those in need.

The market is excellent and cattle have done well over the summer! It’s probably a good time to market your cattle! Call us here at Winter Livestock; we can help you market your cattle in a variety of ways! We will have a great line up of yearlings for next week’s sale! There are already over 500 head of yearlings consigned, including 200 head of northern blk/bwf heifers!

Don’t forget how our internet can show your cattle to the world!

There is going to be a lot of activity here at Winter Livestock this fall! We have several special sales lined up for just about every month! Bred cows, bred heifers, weaned calves, calves off the cow, internet options, and a video sale, are all going to be offered for you! Call us at 580-796-2150 or visit us at www.winterlivestock.com for more information!

We really appreciate all of your business!
