Enid, OK: Market Report for July 26, 2005

We had a great cow sale again this month! About 1400 head sold this last Tuesday, with the pair and bred cow market extremely active! Calves and yearlings sold very well, but a little lower. Young pairs bringing $1250.00 to $1400.00. Solid mouth pairs bringing$1100.00 to $1200.00, with broken mouth pairs selling from $950.00 to $1100.00. Bred heifers bringing either side of $1000.00. We had 180 pairs, mostly old, averaging 1471 pounds and $1091.00 this week!

Demand for cattle is still great! In the last three monthly cow sales, ½ to 2/3 of the pairs and bred cows were sold to buyers from out of state. Several buyers were in the seats, but quite a few were sold over our internet! Just last week we had 128 buyers watching on the internet, and had probably 100 or so people in the auction! That’s a lot of interest in your cattle!

The live internet auction is a tremendous tool for you to be using. It allows your cattle to be seen and purchased by people from all over the country. It’s truly amazing how many people are watching the sale every week and how many cattle are being sold to out of state buyers!

With so many cows and calves going north and west, it still seems that a pair or bred cow is an excellent investment/commodity to own! As a comparison, for the last two years, we’ve been selling 500 lb calves for over $600.00, with some calves off the cow bringing as much as $750.00! If you buy a bred cow for $1000.00, and get $650.00 for her calf, that only leaves $350.00 in a cow, and her next calf is profit! That sure doesn’t seem like a bad investment!

A person can run a lot more calves and yearlings, but there is only one outcome to them. Not to mention the fact that when a yearling is in the feed yard, you may or may not get a respectable bid on that pen. Think about it! We have the highest demand we’ve seen for beef in years, but we’re only getting bid $74.00 on our fat cattle? Try to find a great, choice steak for under $20.00!

Don’t forget our next video auction, Wednesday, August 3, in Dodge City, Kansas! We are having a special customer appreciation day along with 10,000 calves, yearlings, bred cows and pairs! The auction will be broadcast over the internet out of Dodge City. You’re more than welcome to go to Dodge or watch it from our other auctions or even the comfort or your own home!

Enid, OK: Market Report for July 19, 2005

We still have a great market on our hands! Even with the Canadian border opening, the cattle market has stayed very strong. Feeder cattle are steady to weak on the better kind, with calves selling lower, although a lot of calves for fall delivery are selling very strong! The future board started lower with the announcement of the opening, but then came right back the next day. Our market is just very strong!

It appears the only weak link in our industry chain is with the fat cattle and butcher cattle. One interesting thing about these two links is that they are almost totally controlled by a few corporations. Have we all forgotten about captive supply? It seems funny that the fat cattle market could be as low as it is, when we have the best demand for beef we’ve seen in 30 years! Big may be good, but giving over control for the sake of money is just wrong.

We’ve had some great moisture around the country this summer! It has been spotty, but there is sure a lot of knee high grass in the places that got it! This sure makes the bred cows and pairs look like a tremendous commodity to own. Especially when these calves are still bringing $500.00 to $700.00 a head! Possession may be the key in the near future.

We are having an outstanding selection of pairs, bred cows, bred heifers, and breeding bulls for our monthly special cow sale! There are over 500 head consigned so far, with more by sale day! Call 580-796-2150 if you have any questions or consignments! Don’t forget our next video sale Wednesday, August 3, 2005 in Dodge City, KS! You may preview most of these cattle on www.cattleusa.com!
